What happened? In the sunshine this year on the national holiday (May 1st), thousands of visitors flocked to the Urfahraner market. Among them was a family from the Linz area. At around 8.15 p.m., the four children wanted to go for a spin on the carousel. Their 33-year-old father bought tickets for this, which cost a total of 10 euros. The father stood on the outer edge of the “turntable”, next to his daughter, who had taken a seat in a vehicle. He was afraid that she might jump out because she suffers from autism, he later stated.
Visitor wanted money back
The operators were concerned about the safety of the passengers. They said it was too dangerous for him to stand on the window. When the man was asked to leave the window, he decided to return the four tickets he had bought. He demanded his money back, but the operator waved him off. An argument ensued, which is said to have culminated in threats and violence. The fairground visitor is accused of injuring the ride operator with a punch. He is also said to have said several times that he would hit her.
Statements differ
Twelve weeks after the incident, the Bosnian man living in Upper Austria is facing trial. He faces a fine of up to 720 daily rates or a prison sentence of up to one year. It is disputed whether the ride on the carousel had already begun or not, says Walter Eichinger, spokesman for the LG Linz. The accused has no previous convictions and has no previous convictions.
