The former mayor of Artigas, Pablo Caram, resigned from the National Party later being convicted of corruption in the context of the overtime scandal that shook the authorities of that department.
The decision was communicated by the president of the PN, Macarena Rubio, who argued that the influence of the presidential candidate Alvaro Delgado was decisive, since “he had requested that he proceed in this manner” and noted that the former president “did so within seconds.”
Rubio said that Caram communicated his decision through a WhatsApp message, at Delgado’s request, and prior to the meeting scheduled for this afternoon of the Ethics Commission.
“The commission was supposed to meet this afternoon and in the face of this resignation there is no point in analysing the situation, because he will no longer be a member of the party,” he said regarding the suspended meeting.
What is happening with Caram’s succession?
Caram had already left the Artigas mayor’s office vacant and, after the disqualification of his immediate successor, the former deputy Valentina Dos Santos, the notary assumed Elita Volpi.
