Santorini is on the verge of collapse: Lockdown on the Greek dream island?

Santorini

Around 17,000 cruise ship passengers arrive on the small island every day. To counteract this rush, Mayor Panos Kavallaris called on the 15,000 islanders to stay at home.

In a Facebook post, Kavallaris warned of “another difficult day for our city and our island” and asked locals not to leave their homes to ease the flow of traffic. Although the post was deleted after just 15 minutes, it immediately sparked a heated debate in Greek media about the impact of mass tourism.
