Around 17,000 cruise ship passengers arrive on the small island every day. To counteract this rush, Mayor Panos Kavallaris called on the 15,000 islanders to stay at home.
In a Facebook post, Kavallaris warned of “another difficult day for our city and our island” and asked locals not to leave their homes to ease the flow of traffic.
