Imports of China fell by 29% year-on-year during the month of June and the dairy sector of the Uruguay receives another blow in the midst of a low remission of milk and problems exporting, not only to the Asian country but also to Brazil, its main buyer.
China is the world’s largest buyer of milk powder and experienced a 25.5% drop with sales of 50 fewer tons than in June last year. Meanwhile, the milk powder skimmed milk also suffered a 44% drop in its imports.
Regarding his relationship with Uruguay, the director of Conaprole, Daniel Labordecommented that less and less product is being exported to China. “We have exported very little to China, It used to be the second largest market. Today it is no longer among the top 15,” he said.
“As in China does not appear on the market is why there are these drops in the prices of whole milk powder, skimmed milk, cheeses, butter,” he added.
Problems in exports
Import levels by Brazil have remained stable in terms of volume, but there have been fewer gains, due to an unfavorable exchange rate. Logistical problems also affect the two countries, where there are long lines of 10 to 15 trucks. “Although we can enter, the logistical difficulties make it very difficult for powdered milk to reach the Brazilian market,” Laborde lamented.
In this sense, imports of dairy of Brazil Milk imports fell by 23% in May and hit a 12-month low. According to Comex Stat data published by Milkpoint, a total of 146.3 million equivalent litres of milk were imported, the lowest volume in the last 12 months. Among the products that saw the biggest drop was dairy products, whole milk powder with 31% of the decline and the skimmed milk powder with a drop of 38%.
For its part, according to the report of the National Milk Institute (Inale) Export turnover fell in June compared to the same period, driven by whole milk powder and cheese. Thus, with a negative balance of 13%, in June a positive result was achieved billing of 60.6 million dollars, while the cumulative figure for the first half of this year was 385.3 million dollars.
