Unlike USA and other countries, the EU continues to refrain from recognizing the victory of the anti-Chavez opposition candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia.

“The European Union therefore calls for a new independent verification of the electoral records, if possible by an entity of international reputation,” it added, and also calls on the Venezuelan government “to put an end to arbitrary detentions, repression and violent rhetoric against members of the opposition and civil society, and to release all political prisoners.”
The OAS took strong aim at Maduro
Last Saturday, the Organization of American States (OAS) criticized the current political crisis in Venezuela and called for “a return to peace in democracy” through a harsh statement posted on social media.
“The Venezuelan people have paid a high price in hunger, misery, migration, disease, political imprisonment, torture, and death like no other people in the hemisphere in this 21st century,” the letter states, adding: “Let the actors of the international community who have been lenient with these crimes ensure that they do not happen again. Let there be a profound meaning of peace in the actions of every Venezuelan man and woman, let there be no place for a single repressor or a single repressed.”
