Using new, highly sensitive DNA analysis methods, researchers at the Medical University of Innsbruck found that a maternal relationship to the House of Baden and thus the widespread prince theory can be ruled out “with almost 100 percent certainty”.
“Kaspar Hauser was 99.9994 percent not a prince,” the Medical University said in a press release on Tuesday, clearly illustrating this probability, which borders on certainty, with figures. The “prince theory” was the longest-standing theory, along with the opinion that he was merely a more or less pathological liar and fraudster. It held that Hauser was the Baden Crown Prince, born on September 29, 1812, who died at the age of just 18 days and before he was even named.
Mystery of origin still unsolved
Hauser was picked up in Nuremberg in 1828 as a 16-year-old, staggering and looking confused – he had supposedly grown up in a dungeon on bread and water and had no real contact with the outside world. He is said to have remained at the level of a two- to three-year-old child.
