China It once again emerged as the main trading partner during the last quarter, becoming the largest recipient of Uruguayan exports, a situation that takes on special relevance at a time when negotiations are restarted to reach a trade agreement with the Mercosur.

In a month of strong growth in collocations As in July, sales to the Asian giant totaled 300 million dollars, reaching 26% of the monthly total and representing an increase of 89% compared to the same month in 2023.
The improvement was mainly due to exports of soy, which multiplied by more than seven, with an increase of 614% compared to the worst moment of the drought. Added to this is the fact that the placements of precious stones increased fivefold and reached 9 million dollars, while those of cellulose increased by 12%.
Added to this is what happened in June, when sales to China exported in the month, with a 668% increase for soybeans and a 437% increase for cellulose.
In May, although the exports to the Asian giant was reduced by 10% compared to 2023, it was also the main destination, with sales of 326 million dollars (28% of the total).

What were the other destinations with the highest exports?
Although it was once the main trading partner, Brazil appears as the second destination with the highest sales, driven by the vehicles and the cellulose. Loans to neighboring countries totaled 243 million dollars (21% of the total) in July, 178 million in June (14%) and 194 million in May (17%).
The contribution of the European Union (EU), which rounded out the top three in July and May, dropping to fourth place in July. Its sales were $162 million last month, $97 million the month before and $151 million in May.
