Uruguay will host the Third Regional Forum on Instant Payments

Uruguay will host the Third Regional Forum on Instant Payments in 2025, which is organized by the Latin American Reserve Fund (FLAR), and brings together experts from central banks of Latin America and the Caribbean with the aim of exchanging experiences and best practices in the payment system.

The 2025 venue was confirmed during the 19th Annual Economic Studies Conference held in Cartagena (Colombia), which was attended by the new president of the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU), Washington Ribeiro.

In this regard, Ribeiro stressed that it will be “an honor” for the country to host the event and that “the implementation of the rapid payment system” is one of the aspects that “has been among the main priorities of the Roadmap promoted by the Central Bank of Uruguay from the year 2020″.

Regarding the importance of the rapid payment system on the country’s agenda, the bank official added: “the development of the payment system means not only providing tools to make life easier for citizens, but it has also become a relevant tool on the country’s development transformation agenda, as it contributes to the efficiency and transparency of the economy as a whole.”

Thematic axes of the XIX Annual Conference of Economic Studies

Regarding the XIX Annual Conference on Economic Studies in Cartagena, which was organized by the CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbeantogether with FLAR, focused on “Inflation, monetary and fiscal policy in emerging and developing economies” and brought together leaders, academics and experts from central banks in the region to discuss the latest trends and analysis on the economy of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ribeiro was moderator of the presentation “Policy lessons for emerging and developing economies in the current global economic context”, Pierre-Olivier Gourinchaswho is an economic advisor and director of the studies department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
