“Youngsters meet top athletes”: The motto with which the Sportunion IGLA long life advertises its renowned, international Josko running meeting was put into practice on Wednesday evening. Even before the 18th edition of the top meeting takes place in the Andorf Pramtal Stadium on Saturday, the young IGLA talents were able to welcome a special training guest on “their” running track.
The Kenyan world-class sprinter Ferdinand “Ferdi” Omanyala – who will be running the 100-meter distance for the third time in Andorf on Saturday – took more than half an hour to spend with the young athletes and led a short training session. The children greeted the Olympic participant from Paris with a “Welcome home” and great applause. Afterwards, the young athletes were very enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed the instructions, tips and tricks from the professional. “You can’t buy something like that,” says meeting organizer Klaus Angerer. “It’s obviously a great thing for the young athletes. Where else do you get the chance to get to know a world star and Olympic participant up close?”
