Ten kilometers of traffic jam after rear-end collision on the A1

In the dense holidaymaker traffic returning home, a serious traffic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, shortly before 12 noon, on the Westautobahn (A1) in the direction of Salzburg between the St. Valentin entrance and the Enns exit: A total of four vehicles and 13 people were involved in the accident.

The emergency services, fire brigade and police were alerted and quickly arrived on the scene to provide assistance and to secure the accident site accordingly. A doctor who happened to be present administered first aid.

As two lanes had to be closed during the operation, there were massive disruptions and long waiting times in an already high traffic volume. The result was a significant traffic jam of around ten kilometers in length. The Sankt Valentin fire department took over the recovery and removal of the crashed vehicles. A total of 13 people, including three children, were involved in the accident: eight people involved in the accident had to be taken to nearby hospitals with minor injuries.
