The leader and presidential candidate of Cabildo Abierto (AC), Guido Manini Rioshe demanded from the Executive power prioritize the public safety in the final stretch of the government, since he understands that “we cannot wait” for the next term to attack the problem.

This weekend, in a conversation with Telemundo, the leader of the council once again referred to his idea that it is necessary to declare the “public emergency” in terms of security in the Uruguay.

“Between now and March 2025, 200 more Uruguayans will be murdered, according to the average that has been recorded in recent times,” said Manini Ríos, adding: “Declaring a public emergency means prioritizing this issue above any other.”

In this regard, the CA presidential candidate said that next Monday he will formalize the claim for priority, seeking that the State has greater economic resources and new public policies to deal with the current situation of insecurity.

On this last point, the senator understands that the Home Office should have measures in place to ensure a “much greater” police presence in the most dangerous neighbourhoods of the metropolitan area, by increasing the number of officers.

“We must take the heavy prisoners to a maximum security prison”

In another order, Manini Ríos again emphasized his campaign proposal to take the “heavy prisoners” to a “maximum security prison”.

“The heavy-duty prisoners who continue to run organisations from prison must be taken to a maximum security prison where they will be subject to strict isolation measures. This must be applied immediately; we cannot continue to wait months,” he said.

For his part, the senator from the council Guillermo Domenech He regretted the “repeated deaths due to problems linked to drug trafficking” and called for the homicides to be stopped “in some way.”
