Uruguay positioned itself as the second largest software exporter per capita in Latin America

Uruguay It positioned itself as the second largest exporter of software per capita in Latin America and is ranked fourth in the ranking of dollar billing by exports At the continental level, according to the latest report for the Information and Communication Technologies sector (TIC) prepared by the government agency Uruguay XXI.

In this bulletin, corresponding to the month of July, it is recalled that the segment TIC had an early development in the country, with a strong export profile which allowed it to position itself prominently at the regional level.

In recent years the sector has been showing strong dynamism and, according to figures from the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), turnover amounted to 2.84 billion dollars in 2022, growing by 46% year-on-year and reaching 4% of the gross domestic product (GDP).

According to CUTI, the segments that generate the most revenue are IT services and IT infrastructure. In the last decade, the exports maintained sustained growth, with joint turnover growth in 2022 of 1,816 million dollars, 81% more than in 2021.

In the breakdown, the IT services division was the best performer, and the good levels of services associated with horizontal and vertical applications must be added to this.

The main export destination was again USAfollowed by United Kingdom in second place, while the Argentina completed the podium. According to data from the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU), IT services sales in 2023 reached $1.02 billion, maintaining a similar level to 2022.
