“It was always important to us to be able to offer high-quality races,” said Erwin Hörtl before this year’s Braunau Cycling Days, which took place last weekend for the 25th and final time. And just like the 24 previous editions, the organizing association ARBÖ Radclub Braunau, led by chairman Hörtl, once again lived up to its own expectations. In glorious summer weather, around 600 visitors flocked to the district capital on Saturday for the inner-city criterium and on Sunday for the road race in Ranshofen, and saw both athletically demanding and exciting races.
In the men’s criterium, the German team Auto Brosch-RSC Kempten celebrated a double victory: Jonas Schmeiser won the sprint against his teammate Silias Motzkus. Fabian Steininger from Grieskirchen, who competed for the “Maloja Pushbikers”, also landed on the podium. Victory at the Austrian U23 championships went to Tim Wafler from the Tirol KTM Cycling Team.
One team in the women’s race also had two reasons to celebrate: 20-year-old Elisa Winter from the Union Raffeisen Radteam Tirol won ahead of her 19-year-old club colleague Amalie Cooper. Laura Kastnehuber from RSV Irschenberg took third place on the podium.
