“For us, it is the home game with the greatest audience interest,” says Tim Entenfellner, team manager of the Young Vikings, ahead of tomorrow’s regional league duel against Union Gurten (7 p.m., Innviertel Arena). Entenfellner expects around 600 spectators at the local derby, otherwise only 150 fans usually come to the games of the SV Ried second team.

After five rounds, the favorites are clearly in their place: Gurten started the season very strongly with four wins and one draw. “We are a little surprised ourselves, because we don’t usually start the season so well in terms of points,” says Gurten captain Thomas Reiter with a grin. After two opening wins, the Vikings have recently suffered three defeats in a row.

Many Gurtner were in Ried

Regardless of the very good results, there is still room for improvement in terms of performance. “We are not quite where we want to be, but that is complaining at a high level after this start,” says Reiter, who, like many other Gurten players, used to play for the SVR youth team.

According to SVR official Entenfellner, no fewer than nine players with Ried pasts were in the Gurten starting eleven for the 2-0 home win against Steyr. “We all know each other, so it’s definitely a special game,” says Entenfellner.
