The president of Students from La Plata, Juan Sebastian Veronrevealed that the American magnate Foster Gillett is willing to invest in the institution.
At the board meeting, Verón explained that Gillett will land in La Plata football with the role of manager of the institution: his task would be to finance the various sports projects of the club.
According to the newspaper El Día de La Plata, the American billionaire is interested in receiving a percentage of future sales of Pincha’s footballers. However, the magnate clarified that his interest is not linked to “money.”
She also promised to finish the “Uno” stadium in La Plata, to promote the modernization of women’s football at the club and to collaborate in the creation of youth and professional teams.
“Here, nobody says that a private company is going to close the club and leave football alone. It is very biased, they make you see the bad. We are in the state that has to help you grow, the same thing happens in the club, you ask the club to do everything and it cannot do it.”said Juan Sebastián Verón about private investments in Argentine clubs.
If the tycoon’s arrival in Argentine football is confirmed, Estudiantes would become the first club in the nation to apply a mixed management model (with income from the club and investment from a private party).

Who is Foster Gillett, the man who is approaching Estudiantes?
Foster is the son of businessman George Gillett, who worked in the media and sports business.
Early in his career in sports investing, George purchased a well-known basketball entertainment team, the Harlem Globetrotters.
In 2007, Gillett and Tom Hicks became the owners of Liverpool Football Club in England. A crucial moment for Foster’s start in sports business that year was when he was appointed to the position of director.
In 2010, the Gilletts sold their shares in the sports institution to the Fenway Sports Group.
“My first memory of Argentine football is that of a young Javier Mascherano when he played for Liverpool, my family’s team”revealed businessman Foster Gillett about his time as manager of Liverpool in England.
Years later, the billionaire continued in the financial sector of European football, and was linked to the management of Derby County, a club that was once in the English relegation categories.
