The big anniversary celebration for 25 years of the Innviertel rescue control center and 35 years of the Ried emergency medical service was introduced with a video contribution with the former Ried district captain and Red Cross district manager Franz Pumberger. In this video, Pumberger describes his dramatic memories of November 10, 2022 and the days after. “It was around 3:30 p.m., from one minute to the next I felt pain and a burning sensation in my chest. Luckily my wife was at home. I told her that I thought I was having a heart attack,” said Pumberger. After six minutes, the emergency medical team was on site and the Ried resident was taken to the hospital in Wels with an anterior wall infarction and cardiac arrest. After he slowly woke up from a deep sleep, a doctor stood at his bedside and told him that he would survive this heart attack without any damage, said Pumberger, adding: “I will never forget that sentence.”
