For a moment there was light at the end of the tunnel. The dark clouds that hung over Lake Traunsee on Sunday morning had not disappeared, but the rain had stopped. And it had stopped for several hours. By late morning, however, the break was over – and the rainfall became even more intense than before.
The underpass that connects pedestrians and cyclists Ebensee to the shore of Lake Traunsee was no longer usable. The area around the “Sky Waterwalk” is completely flooded, and in the Rindbach district the lake had already overflowed its banks on Saturday. The parking lot at the local leisure center was closed.
“We are not currently in a situation where we would have to raise a big alarm. But when I look at the snow line, it does worry me,” says Mayor Sabine Promberger (SP). Because tomorrow it is only supposed to snow above 1900 meters above sea level. Ebensee is also experiencing an unpleasant déjà vu: the driftwood has come rushing in with the water.
