The price increase for food was once again significantly lower than the general inflation rate, but prices in the catering industry continued to rise more than twice as fast as overall inflation, said Thomas. Without the price development for fuel and heating oil, inflation would be 2.7 percent.

The price level of the micro-basket of goods, which reflects daily purchases and mainly includes food, but also daily newspapers or coffee in a café, rose by 4.2 percent year-on-year in August, according to Statistics Austria.
