How is this excessive ambition
“It’s not a documentary. It’s not a tour. It’s a tragedy.”says the triad of directors of the film, made up of Santos Bacana, Cris Trenas and Rogelio González. For years, they followed Antón Álvarez, the man behind the project that is C. Tangana, in the transformative process of searching, creating and later presenting El Madrileño, an album that made him sound all over the world, as well as following the tour “Sin cantar ni afinar”, with which he visited Buenos Aires in 2022 with two sold-out arenas.
The work in documentary format shows how the artist, during these years, faced the self-imposed challenge of redefining the concept of the live show, and reveals the lights and shadows of the creative process at each of its stages.
“This Unmeasured Ambition” premiered at the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival In 2023, it was part of the official selection of the IN-EDIT Barcelona Festival and was screened in cinemas throughout Spain, becoming the third highest-grossing documentary in the country in 2023. The film was nominated for the prestigious 2024 Goya Awards in the category of Best Documentary Film, closed the Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival 2024 and opened the 39th edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival on June 7.
A must-see premiere for Argentine fans of C. Tangana, who will be able to delve into the complex development of one of the most relevant works of this decade, not only musically but also in the commitment to the theatrical and audiovisual format of live performance and now, also, the big screen. Because at the end of the day, as its directors said, this piece is a tragedy in three acts.
