River qualified tonight for the semi-finals of the Libertadores Cup of America after winning at home by 1 to 0 Colo Colo from Chile, in a match played at the Monumental stadium, for the rematch of the quarter-finals.
Facundo Colidio scored the goal for the “millionaire” team in the 16th minute of the first half, which advanced after a 1-1 draw in the trans-Andean country.
The Argentine team will have to wait for the result between Fluminense and Atlético Mineiro to meet his new rival.
In the first leg, the Rio team won 1-0 and now they face each other in Belo Horizonte.
Following this victory, the team from Núñez played its 400th match in the history of the Copa Libertadores, and thus became the second team to reach this figure in the competition, after Nacional from Uruguay, which collected 427.
The last time River had reached the semi-finals of this tournament was in the 2020 edition (played in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic) when they faced Palmeiras of Brazil and were eliminated after losing 3-0 at home and then winning 2-0 away in an epic match.
The Chilean team began by advancing towards the area defended by Armani, but gradually lost presence and the ball, until River imposed itself from the game to win and dominate in the field of the Chilean club.
With a ball at 16 minutes of the first half and a short clearance from the Colo Colo defense, Santiago Simón put the ball back into the area and with a single touch in the air, Colidio put the 1-0 for the host.
With the goal in their favor, the team led by Marcelo Gallardo regulated actions and gave the ball to Colo Colo, who had more possession but lacked depth.
In the second half, Jorge Almirón’s team was far from River’s goal and could not connect with the forwards to create danger.
On the other hand, the “millionaire” team maintained its presence in the rival field and even dared to try to make it 2-0, although it lacked precision in the final meters.
