The head of Williams, James Vowlesassured that they could have “anticipated” the arrival of Franco Colapinto to the seat of the team Formula 1 but that it would have been “hasty” and “we would not have seen the level it has now.”
“If we had raised it at the beginning of the year, we would not have seen the Franco we have now”expressed the British Vowles in a television interview.
To explain this decision, Vowles assured that it was part of his job to prepare and psych him up for what it means to drive in Formula 1, more than what he works on today when he is already in the Williams.
“It’s an interesting question, because a lot of the work we did with Franco was preparing him for this moment,” Vowles said.
“From that perspective, I am satisfied with the moment in which we made the decision. We knew that he was fast, but we expected that it would take more time to adapt. However, he has proven to be very strong mentally and has more than delivered.”concluded the Williams team leader. How is the fight for the championship?

James Vowles, for Motorsport, on Colapinto:
“If we had done this (give place in #F1) at the beginning of the year, I don’t think the Franco of today was seen. “We knew he was fast, that’s why we put him in the car, but we expected it to take longer to pick up speed.” pic.twitter.com/Y2aa5r3UEU

With six Grand Prix remaining in the championship, the leader is the Dutchman and three-time world champion, Max Verstappen (Red Bull), with 331 points.
In second place is the British Lando Norris (McLaren), with 279 points, followed by the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), with 245.
Although Verstappen has a good advantage with six races remaining, his car had a very poor performance in the last races and it will be a challenge to maintain the distance with respect to Norris, who has the best car on the grid.
Colapinto, for his part, is nineteenth due to the four historic points he achieved in Azerbaijan, which allowed him to become the first Argentine to score since Carlos Reutemann in 1982.
In Singapore, the driver from Pilar had a very good start and was well positioned to score points again, but Williams’ poor strategy ended up relegating him to eleventh position after the pit stop.
