The anniversary will also look back on the numerous Spielraum in-house productions such as “Astutuli”.

The Gaspoltshofen playroom has been enriching cultural life in the region for three decades. The team around founding member and long-time chairman Lois Berger performs the cultural site, the former Mader cinema, with theater, cabaret, concerts, literature, film and a diverse children’s program. The club has around 300 paying members, and around twelve people work in the core team. The next generation is also hard at work.

“We older people have the wealth of experience and the contacts, but it is reassuring that some young people are already taking over different areas,” says Berger in an interview with OÖNachrichten. The 65-year-old is pleased that his daughter Helena “has already slowed him down in some things in the organization” and is working in the club.

Local cultural provider

The Spielraum has been an important local cultural provider for 30 years. Around 20 to 30 percent of the visitors are from Gaspoltshofen, but most come from a radius of around 20 kilometers.

After the difficult Corona years, visitor numbers are not yet quite at pre-Corona levels. “Before Corona, every second performance was sold out, fewer visitors came to the cabarets recently, but that should work again now,” says Berger.
