In the center of Recoleta, next to the Duhau Palace, is one of the most famous mansions for its mystery stories in Buenos Aires. It was built 130 years ago and in its time it was one of the most notable buildings in the city, although currently it is almost uninhabited and in deterioration.

In 1890, Alejandro Hume, a businessman in the railway sector, ordered the construction of this mansion located at the intersection of Avenida Alvear and Rodríguez Peña. Although it is currently still inhabited, its current use is far from the original intention, and the building remains without significant modifications since its creation.

The story of the haunted mansion of Recoleta
The horror stories began when the residents of the neighborhood and the area noticed that the mansion emanated a certain dark and mysterious wave. Despite the fact that at some point the mansion was an emblem of power and situations as important as the following occurred or happened to it:
- In 1893, it hosted one of the first art exhibitions in Buenos Aires.
- In 1913, the famous landscaper Carlos Thays designed the residence’s private gardens, which are still in good condition.
- They declared it a National Historic Monument in 2002.
Today it is not even half of what it once was; Many neighbors report that strange things happen in that home, but its owners Carlos Alfonso Biocca Iavicoli and María Susana Maguire Duhau de Biocca assure that all that is nothing more than a story and that nothing strange ever happened.

Although the mansion was a symbol of luxury and opulence, it is now uninhabited and deteriorated, and is famous for stories of paranormal phenomena and ghostly apparitions. The architect who designed the mansion was Carlos Ryder, also responsible for other notable works in Buenos Aires such as the Methodist Church on Corrientes Avenue.
The mansion has two levelsa main floor and a first floor where the bedrooms are, as well as a semi-basement and connected service rooms. One of its most notable spaces is the swimming pool, which was an innovation for the time of its construction.
Currently the mansion is completely barred so that it cannot be seen in the background and the wall was painted yellow, all this was done according to the owners with the aim of the mansion going unnoticed.
