The rescue chain begins with the recognition of possible symptoms of a stroke such as speech and vision problems, paralysis on one side or balance problems. When you have a stroke, every minute counts. The sooner the patient begins therapy in the stroke unit, a special ward for acute treatment for stroke patients, the better the chances of recovery.
Ried’s Red Cross district office manager Christian Dobler-Strehle and Klaus Altmann, a neurology specialist at Ried Hospital, looked for and found a solution to how the treatment of strokes could be further optimized. The duo worked together to develop the “Fast Lane” advance notice system. “After the project was developed, around 80 paramedics were trained in the districts of Ried, Braunau and Schärding. The system was immediately very well received by everyone,” said Dobler-Strehle.
