The governor of Chubut, Ignacio “Nacho” Torreshighlighted this Wednesday in an event at school No. 781 in Dolavon that 2024 will be the school year with the most days of classes in the province in the last 25 years.
“We are ending an extremely successful year, where we not only managed to meet the goal of school days, but we also improved academic quality”said the president, who presented a detailed report of the Educational Plan implemented during the first year of administration.
Accompanied by the Minister of Education of Chubut, Jose Luis Puntaand other officials, Torres highlighted that a total of 144 effective days of classes have been reached to date, far exceeding the 120 days recorded in 2023, and anticipated that by 2025 an extended school calendar of 190 days will be implemented, an unprecedented milestone. that will seek to consolidate educational continuity in the province.
“After 25 years, we managed to reverse a cycle of educational instability that affected thousands of students. This year’s success is not due to magic formulas, but to the fact that the kids were in the classrooms. This shows that when we prioritize education, the results are noticeable,” Torres stated during his speech, addressed to teachers, authorities and families present.
The report presented highlights that, throughout 2024, the provincial government invested heavily in school infrastructure, connectivity, cafeterias and teacher training programs. Torres assured that more than 25% of the province’s budget was allocated to the educational system, marking a clear priority towards strengthening public education.
“In 2025, more than 25% of the budget will be dedicated to the future of public education, because we understand that it is the basis for transforming the reality of Chubut,” he emphasized in that sense.
The governor also reviewed the educational situation before assuming his mandate, describing it as an “educational tragedy.” In this regard, he explained: “There were families who had to leave the province to guarantee their children’s education, and many primary school children did not know how to read or write. That reality prompted us to make firm decisions and call on all the actors in the educational system to work together in the Together for Education program.”
Regarding the priorities of his administration, Torres highlighted the fiscal effort made to sustain school cafeterias and infrastructure, despite budgetary limitations: “In an adverse economic context, we decided to declare the essentiality of cafeterias, because many children depend on from school to eat, which also impacts their academic performance.”
The governor also mentioned the implementation of new educational laws, such as the Professionalism Law to improve the teaching role and inclusion in the Financial Education, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence curricula.
“We are laying the foundations for Chubut to become a model province in terms of public education, with better trained teachers and an educational offer adapted to the challenges of the 21st century,” Torres concluded.
The event closed with special recognition to the Ministry of Education team and the educational community for the effort made to achieve the objectives set. “Lost time cannot be recovered, but we are committed to ensuring that the future of the children in Chubut is never compromised again,” the governor concluded, making clear his vision of a robust and stable educational system for the coming years.
