It was an Instagram post that made the directors of the Musical Frühling Gmunden, Elisabeth Sikora and Markus Olzinger, sit up and take notice. It referred to the 24-year-old composer Charli Eglinton. They found a musical about Mozart on their homepage: “We were blown away,” says Sikora. And even more so when they found out it hadn’t even been performed yet.
This is what is now happening in Gmunden: On April 11, 2025, the musical “Saving Mozart” will celebrate its world premiere in the Gmunden City Theater. The focus is not only on the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but also on the two women in the background: his wife Constanze and his sister Nannerl. “Without them both, the Mozart we know wouldn’t exist,” says the Londoner, who wrote the first version in just two months. Constanze was Mozart’s manager, Nannerl was equally talented, but as a woman she had to get married: “As a composer, it is important to me to address this.”
