The one from Linz Julia Edtmeier was awarded the Nestroy Prize as best actress at the Vienna Volkstheater last night. She received the Austrian Theater Prize for her role as “Mozart” in the play “Amadeus” based on Peter Shaffer, which was seen as a co-production in the Vienna Volkstheater district and in the Bronski & Grünberg Theater, which she co-founded. Colleagues like Birgit Minichmayr from Pasching or the former Linz State Theater actress Anna Rieser came away empty-handed.
Edtmeier “rocks Amadeus”
The jury’s statement states: Edtmeier “rocks Amadeus in a way that even Falco couldn’t have imagined (not to mention Peter Shaffer).” The actress became known to a wide audience through the film “Love Machine” with Thomas Stipsits, and she was most recently seen in the Stipsits crime thriller “Headscarf Mafia”. She grew up as the youngest of four siblings, started dancing at the age of five and began musical training at the age of 16.
