From January 1st, Russian gas will no longer be delivered to Europe – and therefore also Austria – via Ukraine. Already on November 16, the Russian energy company Gazprom imposed a delivery stop after the domestic OMV asserted a legal claim for damages and deducted it from the monthly gas bill. However, Gazprom gas can still reach Austria through trading on the stock exchange.

How secure the domestic gas supply is was also a topic at today’s energy management advisory board in the Upper Austrian country house. In addition to Economic and Energy Councilor Markus Achleitner (VP) and E-Control board member Wolfgang Urbantschitsch, representatives of energy suppliers and network operators also took part.
The conclusion: “The storage facilities are full,” said Achleitner. According to E-Control board member Wolfgang Urbantschitsch, the storage level is almost 92 percent at almost 93 terawatt hours. A little more than half of this is intended for the Austrian market. This covers two thirds of the annual consumption of private households, says Urbantschitsch. “We’ll get through the winter well.” There are also additional reserves.
