Little has changed in the furnishings of the cozy restaurant over the past 35 years. For many, the Rewü is a journey back in time to when they were away in the 1990s. It was November 29, 1989 when the old town bar on Hafergasse opened. “We always left it that way because we wanted to keep the soul of the restaurant, that was important to us,” says Rewü boss Patrik Sorgan, who is hosting the anniversary party on Saturday.
The Rewü is by far the oldest restaurant in Wels city center with the same location and the same name. The 52-year-old has been running the restaurant since 2009 and is supported by his wife Romana, with whom he has been happily married for 31 years, as he emphasizes. The couple has a daughter and now three grandchildren.
Rewü was founded 35 years ago by DJ Frankie Remias and his partner Manfred Wüest (hence the name “Rewü”). Some regulars from the opening days still stop by today, although the audience is mixed in terms of age. “We have the best guests you could wish for and are totally happy with them, because with us there is never anything,” emphasizes Sorgan in an interview with OÖNachrichten.
Parents were recently there to check out the restaurant. “Since then, their children have been allowed to stay a little longer,” says Sorgan and laughs.
It is nice that some marriages and relationships have started from Rewü. “I don’t see many of them for years, but when the children are out of the woods, they come back,” says the passionate host happily.
