In a year undoubtedly crossed by nostalgia that unites generations, one of the most anticipated moments of the year arrives to relive it: Spotify Wrapped 2024. Spotify conducted its annual survey of artists, albums, songs, playlists and podcasts most listened to in 2024 in Argentina and in the world and, starting today, everyone will be able to immerse themselves in the musical summary of the year.
Emily dominated the Argentine music scene, becoming the most listened to artist and the first woman to achieve that record, at the same time as her song “The_Original.mp3” next to TINI It ranked as the #7 most listened to song of the year. One year after the Spotify EQUAL festival, where Emilia was one of the protagonists, this milestone is a clear example that women continue to make strides, attracting thousands of fans throughout the country.
For her 10 shows at the Movistar Arena and her 4 presentations at the Vélez Sarsfield Stadium, Emilia, as an EQUAL ambassador, invited 9 artists to open her shows, reaffirming her support for the emerging music scene and her commitment to promoting diverse genres led by women, ranging from indie folk and pop to reggaetón and cumbia.
Generational convergence: a year of pure nostalgia and emerging artists
This year, Wrapped showed us a unique connection between generations in Argentina. The new trends reveal how “JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out)” is the new motto of the young generations, whose musical preferences return to “old school”, from classics of our national rock to reggaeton hits. A key fact to understand this is that approximately 50% of the “nostalgia” playlists were created by users under 25 years of age, mainly including genres such as Old Reggaeton and National Rock.
Genres such as quartet, cumbia and national rock have reemerged as timeless sounds, driven both by young people and by the reunion of historical musical groups such as Licethe latest album by Charlie Garciaamong other great events. Another relevant fact that Spotify discovered during the year, and that is reinforced in this edition of Wrapped, is that 60% of generation Z has listened to national rock, a trigger that led to the latest Spotify Singles, where current artists like Airbag, Marilina Bertoldi, Juliana Gattas and Dillom covered classics by Soda Stereo, Viejas Locas and Celeste Carballo.
