Ford Europe, the offshoot of the large US automaker, urgently needs a sense of success. The consistently chosen path towards e-mobility has led to enormous disruption in the model range. Successful models such as a Fiesta, a Galaxy or a C-Max, which sold very well between Gibraltar and the North Cape for decades, were quickly removed from the range and replaced by (larger and more expensive) electric models.
The success of this strategy is currently quite manageable: in the first eleven months of 2024, Ford only came in 16th place for new car registrations in Austria – with a 2.6 percent market share. For comparison: In the same period last year it was 3.7 percent and twelfth place. From January to November 2022 it was 5.2 percent and sixth place.
With the new Ford Puma Gen-E, the Cologne-based company now wants to build on past successes. The fully electric version of the popular compact vehicle impresses with a surprising amount of space, generous equipment and low consumption.
