Through Decree 35/2025, which modifies 2126/1971, regulating Law 18,284 of the Argentine Food CodeJavier Milei’s management eliminated a series of restrictions and facilitated the importation of these products, in cases where they have already been authorized by the health organizations of their countries of origin. The Executive considers that this change seeks to modernize procedures and facilitate international trade in food, packaging and materials in contact with them.

“We are looking for cheaper food for Argentines and more Argentine food for the world”stressed the official, who usually celebrates these measures through X, the former Twitter.
“All foods, condiments, beverages or their raw materials and food additives that are prepared, divided, preserved, transported, sold or displayed must meet the requirements of the Argentine Food Code,” the Decree details.
Based on this regulation, products under the jurisdiction of ANMAT may enter the country if they meet the following conditions:
1.International certification: They must have a free sale certificate or similar document issued by the health authority of the country of origin. This requirement applies to products coming from countries with high health surveillance or established reciprocity agreements.
2. Affidavit: Importers may present an Affidavit of Importation as the only administrative requirement, as long as the products have marketing authorization in their country of origin, regardless of whether they are covered by Argentine regulations.
Exports: requirements depending on destination
In the case of exports, the products must only comply with the health requirements of the destination country. In addition, when necessary, exporters may request health certificates from the National Food Institute (INAL).
In the coming days, ANMAT will publish the complementary provisions and specific procedures to implement this new regulation, ensuring its correct application within the framework of international agreements and the Argentine Food Code.
