Desert scenes took place between Wels and Traun in the night of last Friday. A 20-year-old from Hungar, resident in Linz, had a chase with the police with his BMW. This lasted from the A8 to the A25 to the B1 – shortly before the Trauner intersection, it ended suddenly in a serious accident. The driver’s 18-year-old girlfriend was sitting at the passenger seat. Three completely destroyed cars had to be cleared from the main road, four people were injured.
Florian Oberauer, the deputy chief of police at the Linz-Land district, spoke of a reasonably glimpse-like outcome. “The fact that everyone involved survived borders a miracle,” he said the OÖN after the serious accident.

Arrest five days after the accident
On Wednesday, five days after the accident, the Wels public prosecutor’s office ordered the 20-year-old with a judicial approval of the state court of Wels. According to the police, the city -famous racer was found at his home address in Linz around 6 p.m. in the evening. However, the accused tried to flee again. He climbed over a balcony and ran away, but could be obtained from a police officer. Forces of the operational group to combat street crime were finally able to arrest him. The 20-year-old was transferred to the Wels judiciary.
Film -ready chase
It was almost film -ready scenes that took place on Friday night. At 11:26 p.m., a traffic civil patrol in Wels-West on the B1 tried to stop a car driver because it had run over a locking line. The 20-year-old driver initially stopped briefly, accelerated quickly and continued to go to the A8 towards Passau at high speed. The police started persecution. There was thick fog, the visibility was bad.
The persecution led to the A25 at speeds of up to 250 km/h, whereby the handlebar performed risky overtaking maneuvers, including on the breakdown strip.
The escape continued via the Wels-Ost exit, initially back towards Wels. At the intersection to Werfelstrasse, the fleeing driver turned and continued his journey towards Linz. He disregarded several red traffic lights and reached speeds of around 140 km/h, which were even 190 km/h in dense fog. In Marchtrenk there was a side collision with a car that pulled a trailer.
Rümmerfeld on the B1
Shortly before the Traun crossing, the BMW drove almost unchecked against several standing vehicles – at a speed of more than 160 km/h. Three vehicles, including a supporting civilian wagon from the Ansfelden police inspection, were thrown away by the impact, four people were injured.
The driver was arrested and taken to the hospital. Stolen license plates were on his vehicle, and he himself had no valid driver’s license.
