2024 was not an easy year for domestic trade: the second year in a row in a row, nominal sales declines and the third year in the third year in a row were recorded. Between January and November, trade sales declined nominally by one percent or 3.1 billion euros. Adjusted for price increases, the minus is 3.6 percent, as the Chamber of Commerce announced on Friday. In 2022, the real minus was 1.1 percent and in 2021 at 3.6 percent.
There were declines in sales in wholesale, and retailers developed better: “Despite the continuing retention of purchase of consumers, retailers can record both nominal sales growth in the previous year and a low real economic plus. Sales rose nominally throughout the year in 2024 by plus 2.1 percent and around 1.8 billion euros. With an increase of 3.0 percent, Upper Austria is even above the nationwide average, ”says Martin Sonntag, chairman of the trade division in the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce. 100,000 employees are employed in Upper Austria.
