Fasting is carried out overnight, in the morning the body and especially the brain needs nutrients in order to be able to function optimally. “That is why breakfast is so important,” says nutrition expert Romana Schneider-Lenz from the Upper Austria Chamber of Agriculture. A lot of energy, for example, deliver oatmeal, which you can also squeeze yourself, as the seminar farmers Magdalena Mehringer, Gabi Kammerhuber and Barbara Strasser show visitors at Women’s Day. “Generations of Grandma already knew how well a warm grain porridge is. Today you say porridge-but it is still a top meal with which you can start the day healthy and powerfully, ”says Schneider-Lenz and explains the four steps to the perfect“ power breakfast ”.

  1. Base: The classic are oatmeal, but the porridge can also be prepared from all other flakes, semolina or even entire grains. Schneider-Lenz ‘Tip: By roasting the grain in a dry pan without fat, the aroma is intensified. As soon as it starts to smell, bring the whole thing to the boil with liquid. That can be milk, but only water.
  2. Spices to taste: Cinnamon tastes delicious, but you can also add fennel against flatulence. Also possible: lavender, rose flowers, fragrance herbs. “If you like it cute, stir a spoon honey underneath.”
  3. fruit and vegetables: You can also add everything that tastes good, says Schneider-Lenz-fruits and fruit from the garden as well as from the freezer, but also wild fruits like rose hips.
  4. Extras: Of course, this includes nuts according to taste, even kernels of all kinds can be spread over your porridge.
