Apart from the main travel season, Munich Airport is also an important traffic hub for air travelers and business transactions. Affected travelers often do not know whether as a precaution they should rebook or whether they are entitled to compensation if their flight is deleted due to a strike.
“The first contact for information is the airline itself, also the organizer for package tours. Airlines offer current and detailed information about the booked flight and notify passengers directly, for example via SMS,” says ÖAMTC juror Verena Pronebner. The expert gives tips on how travelers should behave best in the case of the unpleasant case.
- Avoid hasty re -booking: Travelers who organize an alternative flight or other transport (e.g. by train) run the risk of staying at the expense if the originally planned flight takes place. “It is therefore better to coordinate with the airline and to achieve a rebooking via them,” recommends Pronebner. “If the airline is not offered a replacement flight, travelers can book a flight themselves and can reclaim the costs from the airline later.”
- Annoupled or heavily late flights: Travelers whose flights are canceled due to a strike are entitled to free rebooking to a different flight or transportation by other means of transport (e.g. by train or bus) at comparable travel conditions. Additional costs may not arise for those affected. In addition, they are entitled to meals from a departure delay of more than two hours and – even greater delay – also on hotel accommodation. If you no longer want to start the trip or there is a delay of more than five hours, you have the opportunity to withdraw from the contract. Then travelers receive the ticket price including taxes and fees.
