Thanks to several statements from contemporary witnesses, new drilling was carried out on the grounds of the former Nazi killing facility in Alkoven (Eferding district) last week. They had ordered the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) together with the state of Upper Austria. Previously, the entire area was flowned using drones and aerial photographs were taken.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior reported on Wednesday. On the north side of the former euthanasia instead of never examined, a 110 square meter layer of human ash and the remains of the bone could be found at one meter depth. An even larger area was found south of the castle: 350 square meters of human remains are suspected at a depth of 80 to 150 centimeters.
Suspected other undiscovered ashefelders were already drawn in December last year: geophysical studies were positively.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner commented on the current finds: The ash found would make it clear that even 80 years after the end of National Socialism, not all tragic remains from this period are known. “The crimes of the Nazi era must never be forgotten. Therefore, we are committed to a worthy commemoration of the victims.”
