It has become quieter around the expansion of the A94, especially in the Rottal-Inn district: since October 2019 the 33-kilometer-long gap to Marktl has been finished and released for traffic, last year the six-kilometer section Malching to Kirchham was released for traffic, which OÖN reported.

Since then there have been no significant progress – at least no public noticeable. “The peace comes because it has not yet been clarified how the funds will be distributed in the future,” says Johann Springer, chairman of the association “Yes to the A94” and mayor in the Bavarian Kirchdorf. Because, after the election at the end of February there is no new government in Germany. “You cannot yet make forecasts and do not say when we will continue because we do not yet know when and whether the financial resources can also be made available. First a government has to form and then the household must be decided in detail,” says the local politician. So means: wait first. Nothing new for the people in the region, for around three decades there has been talk about the gap in the highway between Munich and Pocking and thus Passau on the Bavarian side of the Inn. The supporters are pushing for a better connection to Munich and Passau that traffic on the B12 is already there. Also on the B148 on the Austrian side, on which the volume of traffic has been formally exploded since the closure of the motorway to Marktl, the OÖN reported several times.

“Important expansion”

“We will continue to emphasize how important the expansion of this highway is and will continue to work for an expansion,” says Springer. The association “Yes to the A94”, which he heads, was founded in 1995. Four counties, 62 cities and municipalities, 19 clubs, 42 industrial and commercial companies as well as a number of private individuals have now joined the association and finally call for the long-awaited expansion of the A94 to Pocking. It is expanded in stages. It will still take before the A94 is completed for the A3 at Pocking and then leads directly to Munich. How long, hardly anyone wants to commit themselves, especially if no new government has yet been praised.
