It was a group of indomitable idealists around the then HAK teacher and later HLW director Manfred Derflinger, who at the end of March 1985 rented the union youth home in the backyard of the former Chamber of Labor and converted it into a cabaret. To a large extent, it was a former student with a strong penchant for theater play. In addition to the self -developed plays, guest performances from music to literature to cabaret and children’s theater were also on the program. Little has changed in this concept to this day, apart from the significantly increased professionalism of the currently twelve club members. And the cultural center Akku among the mostly volunteers are one of the most hardworking in terms of stage art. “For our 40th anniversary, we are now doing what we can do best,” says Kurt Daucer, who has been the sixth and long-tired chairman to the battery since 2010: “We are celebrating with a number of extraordinary events together with our friends and guests until the end of April.” On this birthday weekend, two highlights are on the program with a Humorgala of several Austrian cabaret artists and a top -class figure theater. The blues concert of the musician Afel Bocoum, who comes from Timbuktu (Mali) from Timbuktu (Mali) for Saturday: “He did not receive a visa for Europe.” Incidentally, the battery team is not lacking in ideas beyond the birthday. “We have been doing theater productions and school theater projects for decades,” says Daucher, “but now we are also working on a senior theater project for the first time.” Dates and information about the cultural center: www.akku-steyr.com
