The aging old railway is still in operation until August 31, and the salt mine can also be visited by the end of August. The footpath on the Salzberg is already closed due to the construction work. The project volume is estimated at 25 million euros. The new opening is planned in June 2026.

Salt was dismantled in Hallstatt 7,000 years ago, which was the name for an entire prehistoric era. In the Salzwelten Hallstatt you get an impression of the Bronze Age mining 400 meters underground. In 2024, 234,038 people visited the mine and 258,072 used the cable car to the Hallstätter Salzberg. Now the tourist hot spot is getting an infrastructural face lifting.
