On the occasion of the death of the writer Barbara Frischmuth, the internationally celebrated painter and stage designer Xenia Hausner comes to a discussion in the chapel of the Campus Ort in Gmunden on April 10 (6 p.m.). The event is part of the “Campus Talk” series. Hausner talks to Barbara Kübel about the question “Why is art and creative design so important for children?”
Youth in the monastery school
From autumn 1951, Frischmuth attended the then high school and pension of the cross sisters. In her debut novel “Die Klosterschule” (1968) she draws a dark picture of the Catholic Girls’ Pension: For her it was a world full of strict rules, discipline and consistent upbringing for the lack of freedom of thinking and acting. The dormitories in which she “whispered, laughed and cried” have become a symbol of the rigid educational institution. More than half a century later, the location sprays with enthusiasm and innovative ideas, according to the Campus location.
