The rural youth Tarsdorf submitted the winning project.

To better understand and involve deaf people: this is the goal of the “Hands Up” project of the rural youth Tarsdorf (Braunau district), which this year took first place in the Mission Humanity Prize of the youth red cross. This award is intended to highlight ideas of young people who are committed to eliminating social inequalities in their region. Among other things, the rural youth Tarsdorf organized a sign language course and wants to draw attention to the topic with a summer cinema.

“I did a first sign language course myself, it fascinated me so much and I always told what I learned,” says project manager Daniela Auer. “At some point I infected the others with my fascination and we thought about what we can do as a group.” A combination of online voting and jury, in the representative of the Youth Red Cross, the Education Directorate, the Oönachrichten, Lenzing AG and Life Radio, the winners who were presented at the OÖN forum event.
