Permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN said there were no plans to invade Ukraine

There is “not even a hint of common sense” in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, said on Thursday, February 10.

The diplomat also noted that officials and analysts in the West may be at a loss when “deciphering the completely unambiguous statements of the Russian leadership.”

“Therefore, I repeat: Russia does not and did not have plans to invade Ukraine. There is no motive or geostrategic purpose in this. And most importantly, even a hint of common sense, since Russia has always advocated and advocates smooth, mutually beneficial and pragmatic relations with all countries, not only with neighbors, ”RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.

At the same time, he recalled: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has already noted that if the invasion depends on Russia, then there will be no war. As Gatilov stressed, the minister’s statement does not need to be supplemented.

The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s “aggressive actions” against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly rejected such accusations, emphasizing that it does not threaten anyone.

On January 28, Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not going to start a war with Ukraine, and Western countries and the United States were “hysterically” developing the topic of the Russian threat instead of forcing Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements. At the same time, the minister noted that Russia does not want wars, but “we will not allow to attack our interests roughly, to ignore our interests either.”

On February 7, Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Yermakov pointed out that Western countries need to stop the unfounded anti-Russian hysteria and not escalate the situation. According to him, this is one of the main messages of the Russian proposals for security guarantees.
