Although the vast majority of Russian cellular subscribers encounter phone scammers, they do not want to use anti-fraud services and applications. This was revealed in a survey conducted by TelecomDaily.
For example, only 29% of subscribers have caller IDs that warn of calls from suspicious numbers, he showed. Internet ad blockers, which may include links to phishing sites, are used by only 19% of respondents. And such options as a virtual number (needed for safe communication, for example, sellers and buyers in online classifieds services) and voice assistants (including taking over communication with people calling from unknown numbers) are used by only 1% and 3% subscribers, respectively, follows from the survey materials.
The cautious attitude of Russians to various anti-fraud options and services, experts interviewed by Izvestia, explain with users’ doubts about their effectiveness and safety.
“Since attackers are constantly changing numbers, there is no guarantee that the algorithms will reliably protect against fraudulent calls and at the same time will not block really necessary connections – for example, courier services calling from unknown numbers, calls to confirm various kinds of authorization codes and promotional codes, and so on” , — said the CEO of TelecomDaily Denis Kuskov.
Experts also talk about the fear of Russians that anti-fraud applications can use and transfer their personal data to third parties, as well as the lack of awareness of Russians about such services.
