The Brazilian Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, said this Monday that the Government will appoint Gabriel Galipolohis number two in the ministry, and the career civil servant Ailton Aquino Santos for vacant positions on the board of directors of the Central Bank.
Reuters had reported last week, citing sources, that Galipolo was a possible candidate for the job. He is currently executive secretary of the Finance Ministry and will be replaced by Dario Durigan, Haddad told reporters.
Galipolo, former executive president of investment bank Banco Fator, will be named director of monetary policy, while Aquino Santos, who has made a career within the bank, was chosen director of supervision.
“Galipolo is the former CEO of a bank, well known to economists and has been working with me for several months”Hadad said.
He added that central bank governor Roberto Campos Neto had suggested Galipolo’s name for the vacant post.
