The head of the CNV said that the country seeks to be a reference in the region for the regulation of crypto assets

The president of the CNV made these comments in the framework of the XVI Anti-Money Laundering Annual Meeting organized by the Argentine Foundation for the Prevention of Money Laundering (FAPLA).

The president of the National Securities Commission (CNV), Sebastián Negri, reaffirmed that “Argentina is working on a regulation of crypto assets in line with international standards”with which it intends to become “a reference in the region”, which allows innovation to be encouraged without neglecting investor protection.

The head of the CNV made these comments in the framework of the XVI Anti-Laundering Annual Meeting organized by the Argentine Foundation for the Prevention of Asset Laundering (FAPLA).

“Digital finance, technology and virtual assets today enable cross-border payments very quickly and easily. But these changes also come with multiple risks. Otherwise, they can become a vehicle for organized crime, the destabilization of national currencies or the deepening of informal markets,” Negri said during the “Fintech and virtual currencies” panel.

In this context, he stressed that there is a “general consensus that the crypto-assets industry has to adapt to the rules of the international financial system” and said that Argentina is working on “a regulation that is in line with international standards” that are being adopted in the main countries of the world.

Similarly, he stated that “The objective is to make the country a reference in the region for this type of regulation”which allows innovation to be encouraged without neglecting the protection of investors.

The head of the CNV shared the panel with the person in charge of the area Anti Money Laundering & Sanctions Compliance Corporate of Mercado Libre, María Laura Limongelli; and Agustian Capellades, member of the Economic Crimes Commission of the Professional Council of Economic Sciences.

The event, which was held in the Auditorium of the Professional Council of Economic Sciences, was also attended by the president of FAPLA, Gonzalo Vergara; the head of the Economic Crimes Commission of the Professional Council of Economic Sciences, Zenón Biagosh; and the president of the Financial Information Unit (FIU), Juan Carlos Otero.
