The Economist Daniel Artana, one of the most listened to in the market and by companies, gave his opinion on the current value of the dollar, following the voices that speak of it being backward. Furthermore, he estimated that the inflation will continue to fall in May and pointed out that as a result of this behavior the feeling is that people’s concern about the increase in prices “has subsided a little.”

“Our measurement showed that inflation in the first week of May was 1.8% and this is good data. The downward trend in inflation would continue in May”he said in statements to the program “Esta Mañana” on Radio Rivadavia.

The economist highlighted that, although the inflation rate is “extravagant” and similar to that of April last year, now “the situation is different and that gives some relief.” “The situation is different because you cleaned up the fiscal deficit and the basic macroeconomic fundamentals are more solid,” Artana stressed.

Regarding the discussion about whether the price of the dollar is behind, Artana considered that there are indicators that signal an alert and others that still show a manageable situation.
“When you look at the real exchange rate as measured by the BCRA, it gives you the feeling that you are at a low exchange rate and that you could get into an exchange rate delay, but when you look at another exchange rate measure, such as against the labor costs, it gives you that Argentina is cheap again because prices moved faster than salaries,” he explained.
Therefore, he stated that “some indicators suggest that you are getting into trouble and others do not.”
Artana warned that “this delay in salaries will not last long” and that is why he evaluated that “maybe not today, but in a few months, you could get into a problem” of exchange delay.
