The economist Carlos Melconian assured that the National government has a double discourse forced by the needs of day-to-day politics: “Dollarization and caste were campaign slogans, governing is something else.”

This was expressed by Melconian when asked about his phrase, during the 2023 presidential campaign, which accused current president Javier Milei of selling “fideos con tuco”, in reference to the president’s promises.

“There was no chance of dollarizing, regardless of whether it was good or bad. So, beyond my differences with this administration, since December 10, in terms of the approach that has been given to all of this, we all knew it was going to be hard,” he began.

Along these lines, he continued: “Dollarization, caste, closure of the Central Bank. Those were important political slogans, marketing leaders will discuss that one day about what are the three or four things that make you win an election. Here, the word caste as dollarization served that purpose. Governing is something else.”

Carlos Melconian accused Javier Milei of having double talk

“This double discourse, as has happened so many times in Argentina, continues. Why? I’m going to use the word caste, but those who manage the reins of a country, by definition, are politics. Within politics there is good politics and there is bad politics,” Melconian continued in dialogue with radio Rivadavia.

And he maintained: “The President, on a day-to-day basis – already aware of it – is realizing it. The example beyond bad timing and bad opportunity is the barbecue, the Court, lowering the flag with the unions or looking the other way. side in some subsidies”.

“That is to say, on a day-to-day basis he has no choice but to have implemented this, that is, the same thing that is happening in economic policy with dollarization, which was useful for the campaign,” concluded the renowned consultant.
