An important Argentine delegation traveled this week to London in search of mining investors, within the framework of a new edition of “London Metal Exchange Week 2024” (LME)a meeting that brings together officials, investment funds, mining companies, both operating and exploring, suppliers, among others, where the main developments in the sector will be known and opportunities for the development of the industry will be offered.
Within the intense agenda of the Argentine delegation, Luis Lucero participated in the Argentina Day at the national diplomatic headquarters. Then it was the turn of the Secretary of Mining, where he reported on the Argentine mining potential, and what reasons exist for the investors present to decide to start investing or expand their business in the country.
“Argentina is going through an important reform plan” in which “The population supports a drastic plan to control the fiscal deficit, despite the associated efforts,” Lucero said.
The official explained that “Mining is perceived as more favorable than ever” and detailed that “Argentina has a lot to offer in terms of resources, and a remarkably free system to access copper and lithium mining concessions, unlike Chile and Bolivia”surprising in its comparison with neighboring countries, where we will have to wait for the reaction to this comparison.
Once again Lucero took advantage of the advantages provided by the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), where he assured that “The interest of international investors in the project portfolio and the geological potential that Argentina has increased, with special attention to copper and lithium”critical minerals that have high global demand, as they are essential for the energy transition that the world is experiencing.

The national official highlighted that “RIGI quickly obtained support from both the Executive and Legislative Branches in several provinces” and along the same lines he maintained that “never before has a tool like the RIGI, related to investments and now associated with mining, had obtained such broad support or aroused so much interest in the general population.”
Currently, there are nine provinces that have fully adhered to this Regime, with the exception that Chubut did so except for mining activity, while in Tucumán, despite the government’s attempts, also joined the RIGI but without lifting the mining vetoenabling exploration as a consolation prize.
Five governors who make up both the Lithium and Copper Tables also participated in the meeting: Carlos Sadirfrom Jujuy; Gustavo Saenzfrom Salta; Raul Jalilfrom Catamarca; Marcelo Orregofrom San Juan; and Alfredo Cornejofrom Mendoza. The province of Río Negro was also part of the delegation, represented by its Minister of Production, Andrea Polizzi.
