This anniversary occurs within the framework of a loss of 40% of purchasing power of the workers of the houses of higher education and many are below the poverty line.

In this regard, the Secretary General of FAGDUT, Norberto Heyaca maintained: “In technical universities like the UTN, a migration of teaching colleagues to private companiesthe result of meager salaries”, something that adds to the losses of students because they cannot afford university education after the deterioration of the scholarship system.

Why is “University Night” celebrated?

It is in this context that it is celebrated throughout the country “The Night of the Universities”for the 75th anniversary of the implementation of free university fees, a measure by the former president Juan Domingo Perón, with which he eliminated fees for higher education. The effects of that political decision They raised enrollment from 47 thousand students in 1945 to 138 thousand in 1955 (an increase of 200% in just 10 years).

The first measure for the implementation of the project was the National Workers University in 1948, today converted into National Technological University (UTN), with the idea that it would be a higher technical training institute and professionally train the working class.

In that sense, Heyaca remarked: “N“Our university is the vehicle that has allowed the social advancement of many children from the most disadvantaged classes.” and added that “if there is something that was clear in the two federal university marches, it is that “the citizens are willing to defend it.”

Furthermore, the head of the FAGDUT emphasized: “The Government should read that it is the citizens who ask for more public, free and free universities, and not a political party.”

Along these lines, the FAGDUT leaders agreed on the great concern that next year generates in budgetary terms. “This Government made the decision to cut off the water to dry out the entire university system,” concluded the teacher.
